Can Do #1: My Portfolio Career, The Power of Publishing a Newsletter, Multifinality
Staying in touch with people is hard.
How can we maintain a connection with a large group of people? Welcome to the first edition of Can Do. Inspired by the Small Bets community created by Daniel Vassallo, my goal for this newsletter is to introduce you to my portfolio career.
Each edition will include:
a portfolio career update
a lesson to remember
an insightful read
my favorite tweet of the week
I am thrilled to share my journey with you!
Portfolio Career Update
I contribute to three DAOs: BanklessDAO, FTW.DAO, and Community DAO. I will go deeper into each one of them in future editions, but first, what is a DAO?
Imagine joining an organization where you can work with whomever you like, whenever you like, and wherever you like. You decide how you want to contribute to the organization.
“DAOs (decentralized autonomous organizations) represent the next step forward in the labor movement.” – Li Jin, Variant
A DAO is a blockchain-enabled organization with a shared purpose, community, and capital. DAOs are run and governed by people who have the same interests.

DAOs present a new way of thinking about a career. We can work for several DAOs with different missions, diversifying our activities and skillsets. We no longer have to commit to one field or passion.
Lesson to Remember
I had always viewed newsletters as a marketing tactic that companies employ to build connections with their customers. Because of that, I never considered starting a personal newsletter.
“Newsletters are a way to keep in touch with a large group of people.” - Louie Bacaj
Once I heard Louie say that in his Newsletter Launchpad course, my perception of newsletters changed in an instant. Staying in touch with people was very difficult even before the pandemic, and it has become exponentially harder to maintain personal relationships since then.
Keeping in touch with my personal network is why I have decided to start this newsletter.

The Rise of the Full-Stack Freelancer by Tiago Forte
My inspiration for the pie chart at the top of the newsletter was Tiago Forte. He has been applying portfolio thinking to his professional life for the past four years.
Tiago illustrates multiple benefits of a portfolio model, but what caught my attention the most is the principle of multifinality —” accomplishing multiple ends with a single means.” By having only one offering, our efforts lead to only one end. By having multiple offerings, a single effort can add value to multiple outcomes.
I experience that phenomenon in my professional life all the time. Working on a project for a DAO gives me ideas for my advisory business. Researching a topic for an article helps me apply the new knowledge in one of my small bets.
